AACTA Award

/ˈæktə əwɔd/ (say 'aktuh uhwawd)

noun
one of a set of awards which are major means of recognising merit in the Australian film and television industry, made annually for all aspects of filmmaking; established in 1958 under the administration of the Australian Film Institute (AFI); from 2011 administered by the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) with the first awards under the new name presented in 2012.
Formerly (1958–2011), AFI Award, Australian Film Institute Award.
AACTA Awards are voted by industry peers and honour outstanding achievement in a range of categories including feature film; television drama, comedy and light entertainment; documentary; short fiction and short animation. In the early years, entries were mainly documentaries and films made by government departments, and it was not until the expansion of the Australian film industry in the 1970s that feature films began to dominate. Award areas include acting, direction, cinematography, costume design, screenplay, musical score, sound, editing, animation and visual effects.
